Smile Train India is a children centered initiative with a sustainable approach to a single problem: cleft lip and palate. Smile Train India provides 100%-free cleft repair surgeries and comprehensive cleft care to children across the country. Children with untreated clefts have trouble eating, breathing and speaking, facing isolation and ostracism. With a network of over 160+ partner hospitals, Smile Train India has delivered over 4,90,000 safe and quality-assured cleft surgeries since 2000.This has been possible due to the support of our patrons including individual and corporate donors and partnerships with various state governments under the National Health Mission, Border Security Force (BSF) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). With over 35,000 children born with clefts every year, and hundreds of thousands still awaiting surgery, Smile Train India continues to not only provide treatment at zero-cost to every child with a cleft, it continues to train and empower local doctors and medical practitioners.Treatment of clefts comes under ‘Tertiary Medical Prevention,’ as defined by the WHO.
